I want… a holiday

14 July 2008 · Leave a Comment

It doesn’t even have to be anywhere exotic; a weekend under canvas in nearby Abersoch would actually suffice.

Mind you, I’d prefer a couple of weeks in the Greek islands.

We went to Crete for our honeymoon in 2002 (we stayed here, and it was the most amazing holiday EVER), and I’ve been hooked on all things Greek ever since.  I even started learning the language a few years ago, in preparation for trips to Cyprus and Kos, but I’ve been so busy lately I’ve had neither the time nor the inclination to keep up with it; the only Greek phrase I can remember now is “I’d like an ouzo with water and ice, please” – very useful in the pubs round Caernarfon, right?

Speaking of ouzo, it’s seriously expensive in North Wales.  We managed to track down a 75cl bottle in our local Morrisons a few weeks ago, and it set us back nearly 12 quid.  That’s a bit naughty, considering we brought back several litres from our trip to Kos, at only a couple of euros a bottle.

Ouzo naughty boy, then?*  The bloke in charge of importing ouzo into Morrisons, that’s who.

*No, I’m not a tabloid journalist.
