I want… to be fuzz-free

As any fule kno, we ladies generally don’t like being fluffy, whiskery, or downright shaggy. Excessive body hair is fine on blokes (though there are some women who even demand that their men are also de-fuzzed regularly); but we ladies? We need to be smooooth.

Now, as a lady of advancing years (41 at the last count – erk!) I’m noticing that the more years I amass, the amount of unwanted hair I amass also increases. Don’t get me wrong; there’s no danger of my being mistaken for the Cadbury’s drumming gorilla any time soon, but I’m certainly spending more time plucking stray hairs off my chin than I would like.

We girls have lots of options when it comes to removal of unwanted hair – all of which come with their own disadvantages, ranging from minor inconvenience to sheer agony.

There’s shaving, which can leave you with razor burn and ingrowing hairs. Hair removal creams are OK but aren’t suitable for all your fluffy bits, and if you don’t remove the cream quickly enough you can have quite a nasty reaction to it. There’s epilators, which viciously tear out dozens of hairs at a time, leaving you with tears in your eyes. You can wax at home or at a salon; the former can be tricky unless you’re a contortionist, while the latter is expensive and undignified. And you can have laser hair removal therapy, which is also expensive, if effective.

At least, it was expensive until the Boots iPulse Smooth Skin was invented. For a mere (ahem) £275, you can deal with your fluffy bits in the comfort of your own home with this hair-zapping device that works in a similar way to laser hair removal treatment at the salon. And although (according to the reviews) it can be really time-consuming, apparently it’s really effective. Everyone’s raving about it, and I WANT ONE.

Problem is, I don’t have a spare £275 kicking about. Bugger. But then I found this competition on Facebook, where they’re giving away one iPulse a week throughout November. To enter, you just have to tell them in a creative way why you need an iPulse. So this is my entry, made in the space of an evening with a little help from Mr Doo, who arranged and recorded the music:

Now, I should point out that I’ve exaggerated a little in this video; I’m not that hairy :) But like many women, if I could achieve baldness from the nose down without having to set up camp in a plutonium store to achieve it, I’d be a very happy bunny.

The first winner will be announced next Tuesday, I believe. Wish me luck; if I don’t win, the plutonium might start to sound like an attractive option…

  1. What a pathetically transparent attempt at using “content” for product placement.

You think this is “internet marketing”????

The sad thing is, a lot of people will fall for this crap.

    • Oh Dan, you’re so far off the mark :(

I made a little home made video as an entry to a competition. Crappy though the video is, it was my first attempt at anything like that, and I was (am!) proud of it. That’s me you hear singing (wailing?!) on the video. Those are my wobbly drawings. I posted the video here because I wanted a way to share it with people, because I’m proud of it.

Nothing more, nothing less. Incidentally, I won the competition :) Feel free to congratulate me :)

I am not employed by Boots, either directly or indirectly. Oh, if only I were! I would’ve been able to afford the £325 to buy one of these machines instead of having to go to the trouble of entering the competition :)

Chill your boots Dan, and lose some of that cynicism. If Boots were behind this (or the company that licences the machine to Boots, come to think of it), you really think they’d place the video on a little unknown blog like this which gets an average of 2 visitors a day? :)

Nope, I do not think this is “internet marketing”. I think this is me using *my* blog to share a funny little animation I made, because the animation makes me laugh and I thought it might make one or two other people laugh too. Nothing sinister about it. Check the ‘about’ page up the top there, and you’ll understand that if I had been using this video to *publicise* the product, I would have clearly stated so – as I have done in other posts :)

Hope that clears things up. Enjoy your day, and merry Christmas to you :)

  2. Incidentally, “Dan”, I emailed you to let you know I’d replied to your comment, but unfortunately you hid behind a fake email address when you posted your comment, so my email bounced… :)

If I were a coward, I would’ve deleted your comment instead of approving it. Shame you weren’t brave enough to post under your real name and email address, eh? Something to hide? :)

  3. Did you win? If not, I shall be writing to Boots to demand to know why…

    • I did indeed Kel! But unfortunately, a couple of skin conditions I have meant I couldn’t use the machine :( Sold it on ebay unused! Still, enjoyed winning! :D
